Correction and Retraction Policy

AL GHAZALI: Jurnal Pendidikan dan Pemikiran Islam is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes that, although manuscripts undergo editorial assessment and peer review, errors or ethical concerns may occasionally be identified after publication. The journal therefore applies clear and fair procedures for correcting or retracting published articles when necessary.

1. Corrections

A correction may be issued when an article contains an error that does not invalidate its overall findings, arguments, or scholarly conclusions but requires clarification or amendment to maintain the accuracy of the published record.

Corrections may include factual inaccuracies, typographical errors affecting meaning, errors in author affiliations, incorrect references, or other substantive mistakes that can be rectified without withdrawing the article.

Requests for corrections may be submitted by authors, readers, editors, or other concerned parties to the editorial office. The editor will assess the nature and significance of the reported error and determine whether a correction is warranted. Published corrections will clearly identify the affected article, describe the necessary amendments, and be linked to the original publication where technically possible.

2. Retractions

Retraction may be considered when substantial evidence indicates that a published article is unreliable or that serious ethical violations have occurred. Grounds for retraction may include, but are not limited to:

  • Fabrication or falsification of research data.

  • Plagiarism or substantial unattributed use of other works.

  • Duplicate or redundant publication that materially violates publication ethics.

  • Serious methodological or analytical errors that invalidate the article's principal findings or conclusions.

  • Unethical research practices or serious violations of applicable research standards.

  • Proven manipulation of the peer-review or publication process.

  • Other serious forms of research or publication misconduct that compromise the integrity of the scholarly record.

A retraction will be considered only after an appropriate assessment of the available evidence. The journal will provide the authors concerned with a reasonable opportunity to respond to the allegations, except where applicable legal or ethical obligations require otherwise.

3. Investigation and Decision-Making

Upon receiving credible information about a possible error or ethical violation, the Editor-in-Chief or an authorized editor will conduct a preliminary assessment. Where necessary, the journal may request supporting documentation, consult independent experts, or contact the relevant institution or research integrity authority.

Editorial decisions will be based on the evidence, the seriousness of the issue, and its implications for the reliability of the published article. The journal will seek to handle all cases impartially, confidentially where appropriate, and in accordance with recognized publication ethics principles.

4. Publication of Retraction Notices

When retraction is warranted, the journal will publish a clear and identifiable retraction notice explaining the principal reason for the retraction to the extent appropriate and permissible. The notice will be linked to the original article, and the original publication will remain identifiable in the journal's archive with a clear retraction designation, where technically possible.

Retraction notices will distinguish between errors, misconduct, and other circumstances where the available evidence supports different conclusions. A retraction does not automatically imply that every author was responsible for the issue; responsibility will be assessed according to the available evidence.

5. Expressions of Concern

If credible concerns arise but the investigation remains incomplete or the available evidence is insufficient to reach a final decision, the journal may publish an expression of concern. This notice informs readers that an issue affecting the reliability or ethical standing of an article is being examined.

An expression of concern may be followed by a correction, retraction, or another appropriate editorial decision once sufficient information becomes available.

6. Appeals and Author Cooperation

Authors may submit a reasoned appeal against a correction or retraction decision by providing relevant evidence and supporting documentation. Appeals will be reviewed by the editorial team or an independent editor who was not directly involved in the original decision, where feasible.

Authors are expected to cooperate with legitimate editorial inquiries and provide accurate information relevant to the assessment. Failure to respond will not, by itself, establish misconduct, but the journal may proceed with a decision based on the evidence available.

7. Transparency and Preservation of the Scholarly Record

AL GHAZALI: Jurnal Pendidikan dan Pemikiran Islam seeks to ensure that corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern are handled transparently and consistently. Editorial notices will be linked to the affected articles and reflected in the journal's online records and article metadata where technically possible.

The journal's primary objective is to preserve the reliability of scholarly communication, protect readers from misleading information, and uphold the principles of academic integrity and responsible publication.

8. Ethical Framework

This policy is informed by recognized publication ethics principles, including relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), where applicable. The journal may revise its procedures as necessary to reflect developments in publication ethics and scholarly publishing practices
